Statement on US House Passage of Budget Resolution

This budget resolution is a blueprint for disaster for Floridians, especially those who rely on Medicaid for their care — including children, seniors, and people with disabilities — and those who rely on SNAP to feed their families. The impact of these unprecedented cuts to health, nutrition, education, and environmental resilience programs would be widely and deeply shouldered by communities across Florida.

Florida cannot afford the billions of dollars in federal costs that would be shifted to the state, which is already forecasting a deficit over the next three years. This resolution extends and expands tax cuts for the wealthiest 1 percent at the cost of everyday people’s livelihoods and well-being. Like many Americans, Floridians are already stretched to the breaking point with the highest share of cost-burdened renters in the nation, the third highest uninsured rate in the nation, ballooning property insurance rates, and ever-increasing impacts of hurricanes and climate change.

Florida’s congressional delegation should be working to address these challenges and building shared prosperity, not undermining the systems that sustain community well-being.
